HOPE Columbine Memorial Library Opened June 9, 2001

The opening of the new HOPE Columbine Memorial Library at Columbine High School was announced at a press conference held at the school June 9, 2001. The new library honors the teacher and 12 students who were killed on April 20, 1999.

The opening of the 13,900 square-foot facility, added to the southwest side of the school, marks the culmination of the efforts of HOPE -- the atrium and library are complete. The library's design mirrors the school's existing architecture and was constructed with natural stone, glass, steel and concrete.

The HOPE Columbine Memorial Library is made possible by the generous donations of more than 4,600 individuals and groups throughout the country, as well as materials, time, labor and expertise of many local businesses. Design and construction of the library was provided by Architect J.D. Nelson of Davis Partnership and an outstanding team led by Jeff Mack at Turner Construction.
